A City firm with a major corporate and commercial practice. The firm is entrepreneurial and innovative, with an enviable client base, outstanding reputation for quality and an emphasis on providing a supportive yet stimulating and sociable place to work
The main areas of our practice are corporate law (including takeovers and mergers, private equity and fund), commercial law (which includes commercial contracts, IT and intellectual property), litigation, corporate recovery/insolvency, financial services and markets, EU/competition, tax, employment, pensions, banking and real estate.
Our lawyers work in close-knit teams, with the partners always heavily involved in leading the work, and trainees are seen as a valued part of these teams. Trainees are given high levels of responsibility and often find themselves on the phone to clients or qualified lawyers on the other side of transactions. Recent work includes advising Pinewood Studios (the James Bond and Harry Potter film studios) on joint venture agreements to establish film studios in Germany and the Dominican Republic; Shepherd Neame, the UK's oldest brewer, on the outsourcing of the UK brewing of Asahi Super Dry lager and Kingfisher lager; advising on the sale of Pets at Home; and ongoing advice to L'Oreal, Vigin Media, Channel 4, Gaucho, Pret a Manger and STA Travel.
The firm has acted on a number of death row cases for the Caribbean Capital Cases Committee, and has taken on cases from the Bar Pro Bono Unit. Other examples of pro bono work have included advice to St Bart's Church, Macmillan Cancer Support, Coram, The Tree Council, Sabre Trust and Street Games.
On the social front, the firm-fields teams in rugby sevens, five-a-side football, mixed hockey, softball, cricket, squash and golf against clients and other law firms.
Because of our size most people know each other well and a group of trainees can usually be found in a local bar most evenings.
