The UBLC (University of Bristol Law Club) is the Student society of the Law School. We aim to offer you a wide range of academic and social activities to enhance your time at Bristol. Studying Law can be a time consuming subject, so we make sure that you can make the most of your time (and of course your social life!) whilst you’re here. Our social events have the enviable reputation of being some of the best within the university. It all starts with the Fresher’s Party, a brilliant opportunity to meet Law Students from all years and for you to get to know each other.  From here the UBLC looks after your social calendar by offering a wide range of exciting events on a monthly basis ranging from Parties to Bar Crawls and from Comedy Evenings to Balls. Our President’s Ball is not to be missed with this years featuring no less than 3 chocolate fountains, Dodgems, Laser Quest, Disco Bounce, the list goes on! Another event particularly worth mentioning is the Fresher’s trip to Devon, this is a brilliant opportunity for you to get to know the people you will be working with for the next few years and I would thoroughly recommend going along. All of our socials are generously sponsored and so your tickets are heavily subsidised to give you more for your membership money, nearly always resulting in free or heavily subsidised drinks!

If this all wasn’t enough for you we offer much more for you to get involved in. The UBLC enters sports teams to compete against other faculties, law firms and other Universities Law Teams. Currently we have Rugby, Football, Cricket, Netball and Hockey teams but the list is ever expanding. This is a great chance to enjoy playing sport as a lot of the intervarsity matches, whilst competitive, are always great fun. In addition we run mooting and debating competitions, these are really useful to hone your skills learnt at University and look great on your CV. They also give you a good taste of what some Law-related careers are really like. We also run Corporate Workshops hosted by Law Firms to give you an insight into what careers in law are like and also to cover essential careers skills such as applying for internships, interview skills, application forms, commercial awareness and more.

The first few weeks at university can be unnerving and overwhelming so part of what we do is to ensure that you meet lots of new people and have some support for your new course. With this in mind we organise a parenting scheme for new members to help you settle into Bristol. This entails you being put with 3 or 4 other fresher ‘siblings’ who will have their very own set of ‘parents’ who are students from the year above who will help guide you through your time at Bristol, whilst introducing you to many of the student hotspots.
