Gibson Dunn is one of the top law firms in the world with a London practice established over 30 years ago. Working on a fully integrated basis with their other offices around the world, the firm offers full-service capabilities on a wide range of business issues to listed companies, large private companies, investment banks, private equity firms, start-up ventures and many other organisations with international operations and ambitions.
Despite the firm’s largest office being located in New York, their London office handles all aspects of corporate work, including public and private M&A, private equity, finance, capital markets, tax, commercial real estate, and restructuring and insolvency. The office also has an extensive dispute resolution practice, which handles commercial litigation, regulatory investigations, international arbitration and employment and competition law disputes, and which regularly represents clients in courts in the UK and in jurisdictions such as the British Virgin Islands.
Trainee Profile and Training
Gibson Dunn welcomes applications from bright, ambitious individuals, those who are capable of taking the initiative, who have strong interpersonal and organisational skills and can rise to the challenge of working directly with partners within small, focused teams and having client contact early in their careers. Students and graduates of any discipline are welcomed.
Trainees share a room with a partner or senior associate, and work with them on their matters, whilst also having the opportunity to work with the other lawyers in the firm. Trainees are encouraged to work on the London office’s growing number of local and international pro bono activities. Gibson Dunn is proud to have a strong, sustained commitment to pro bono work, and trainees are encouraged to participate in this tradition.
During the two-year training contract trainees spend time in various departments, including corporate, finance, dispute resolution, employment, tax and competition. There is also the opportunity to take secondments to overseas offices of the firm, and with clients. Gibson Dunn's London office will offer 20 vacation scheme places in the summer of 2018.
